This year, smartphones equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 single-chip system appeared on the market, which, in particular, support the ability to record videos in the highest possible resolution of 8K.
Many analysts speak out on the fact that this is a simple demonstration of opportunities, which in fact is meaningless and unclaimed by users. The fact is that even 4K video recording on smartphones today is an extremely unpopular feature, let alone 8K. In addition, recording videos in 8K resolution has hard time limits. Finally, such videos require a huge amount of free space. Moreover, it is reported that in some smartphones, even recording 4K video leads to overheating, as well as to malfunctions in normal operation.
One of the key features of the Samsung Galaxy S9, which was released two years ago, was the ability to record video in 4K resolution at 60 fps, but the time of one recording was limited to 5 minutes. This year, the Samsung Galaxy S20 line of smartphones has received 8K video support at 24 fps, which again is limited to 5 minutes. This creates difficulties for content creators, since you have to stick together short clips.
Another problem is the size of these clips. According to official data provided by Samsung, an 8K minute video shot at 24 fps takes about 600 MB. A five minute video takes up about 3 GB. At the same time, many modern flagships are equipped with 128 GB of flash memory.
An important factor is the lack of reproducing equipment, the fact is that monitors and TVs with 8K support are currently very small and they cost a lot of money.
